Village Profile

South Brent is a large village on the southern edge of Dartmoor. The Parish is the second largest (after Cornwood) in South Hams at 3742 ha, and 6th largest (after Ivybridge, Totnes, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Bickleigh) with a population of 2998 in 2000. The village was originally a woollen and market centre with 2 annual fairs and a station. Now the village centre is within Dartmoor National Park, and it is a thriving community with shops, businesses, school, village hall and community centre.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that a casual vacancy exists in the office of Councillor for the Parish of South Brent (Village Ward) and that unless ten or more electors of the electoral area have on or before the 15th April 2014 submitted a request in writing to the Returning Officer, Follaton House, Plymouth Road, Totnes TQ9 5NE, that an election be held to fill the vacancy, the Parish Council will take steps to fill the said vacancy.
